Sun Foundation, Led by MP Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Completes Massive De-silting, De-Watering Projects; Restores Hundreds of Acres for Flood-Hit Farmers
AMRITSAR – Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney, l Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha and Chairman Sun Foundation has marked the successful completion of critical De-Silting and De-Watering operations in the flood-ravaged Ajnala and Dera Baba Nanak region. The intensive project has reclaimed hundreds of acres of vital farmland buried under sand from the recent floods, allowing local farmers to sow their winter wheat crop and begin their economic recovery.
Dr. Vikramjit Singh Sahney undertook visit to the flood-affected villages of Malakpur, Jatta, and Nangal Sohal near Ramdas, and Dharamkot Pattan village of Dera Baba Nanak reaffirming his commitment to rebuild lives and restore livelihoods in Punjab’s rural heartland.
Dr. Sahney visited Village Jatta, where the community felicitated him for leading the de-watering of over 150 acres of submerged farmland-an operation undertaken swiftly by the Sun Foundation. It was an engineering marvel where 4.5 kms of pipeline was placed to drain water. This intervention not only revived cultivation but also prevented long-term soil degradation.
Dr. Sahney also visited Village Nangal Sohal, where Sun Foundation’s desilting project has successfully reclaimed over 40 acres of farmland once buried under six feet of sand. The rejuvenated fields now stand as a symbol of hope and renewal.
Dr. Sahney said that the purpose of our service is to restore dignity, livelihood and hope. The revival of Nangal Sohal and Jatta’s fields is not just about land-it is about securing the future of our farmers, our youth and our rural economy.
In Village Malikpur, Dr. Sahney distributed rehabilitation kits to families whose homes and fields were ravaged by the recent floods. He emphasized the importance of compassion in times of crisis, saying “It is our moral and social duty to stand with the people in their time of need. I assure them that we will continue extending all possible assistance for their recovery and livelihood restoration.
